A weekly letter for Greater Victoria. What's on this weekend, what's new in town, and what the weather's doing.
An open letter Victoria, BC
Dear reader,
We think every town deserves a paper that sounds like it.
For most of the last century, the place you lived had a small paper. It told you what was opening, who was playing on Friday, and what the weekend had in store. It was useful, and it was yours. Quietly, those papers thinned out. The town kept happening. The record of it moved to a dozen feeds that were never really built to love a place.
Main Streets Media is a small attempt to set that right. We write one letter for one city, once a week, with maybe the odd special edition when the week earns it. Warm, calm, hyper-local. The kind of thing a neighbour actually forwards to a friend, written by people who live on the streets they cover and would rather be specific than loud.
Not the paper of record. Not the angriest feed. A good weekly read, and nothing it does not need to be.
We are not in a hurry, and we are not trying to be everywhere at once. We learn one place properly, earn its weekends, and keep the pieces that worked so the next town starts a little easier. One main street, and then the next.
With care, from the west coast, The Main Streets Media team
What a week of it looks like:
- What's on this weekend. The events worth leaving the house for.
- What's new in town. The café that just opened, the shop that finally did.
- A quick read on the weather, so your plans and the sky agree.
- No crime, no politics, no roadwork, no closures. Other people do that well.

On the name
Why Main Streets Media?
A small joke in the initials.
MSM usually stands for mainstream media, and lately those three letters carry a lot of heat. Some of it is earned. We like the initials and mean something gentler by them.
And a literal one.
Every town has a main street. It is where you learn what is new, what is on this weekend, and what is worth a look. That street is the whole beat, not the capital and not the feed.
Same three letters. A smaller, friendlier promise.
